In 1950 a Dutch hotel manager convinced an Indian family to build a hotel with a British name and decor. The family accepted this advice, and to this day, Claridges has a loyal following--many of them fussy, long-term visitors who appreciate the hotel's old-fashioned charm. The lobby is charming: one side has British Victorian decor; the other side evokes an Indian courtyard. The carpeted bedrooms are large and have Victorian furnishings with either twin beds or a double bed.
